Purple Carrots: The Next Superfood !

They may sound like something out of Alice in Wonderland but purple carrots are not only real, they're being positioned as the next superfood.
purple carrots
Purple Carrots
Purple carrots were grown wild 5,000 years ago in the area now known as Afghanistan. And there were red, white and yellow carrot. Some say there were even black and green carrot! Carrots only became orange in the 1500′s when a patriotic Dutch growers developed a carrot (Red mix with Yellow) in an attempt to nationalize the country’s favorite vegetable...Orange is the national colour of the Netherlands!
Varieties of carrot
We all know about the numerous health benefits of carrots (Daucus carota L.), they are an excellent source of vitamin A, and contain phytochemicals including carotenoids, phenolics, polyacetylenes, isocoumarins, and sesquiterpenes.

Phytochemicals are plant chemicals that have antioxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and other disease preventive and health enhancing properties.
Purple carrots: is a healthier choice than the orange carrot.
Not only do purple carrots contain all of the phytochemicals found in orange carrots, they also contain anthocyanins, potent antioxidants. Anthocyanins are responsible for the bright red, blue and purple colors of fruits and vegetables. Anthocyanins are abundant in berries, especially the blueberry, which has exceptionally high antioxidant activity.

Anthocyanins are naturally found in purple carrots
Purple carrots have the added benefit of anthocyanins that are naturally bred in purple carrots and are great antioxidants. Antioxidants work to protect the body’s cells from free radicals which are unstable molecules with potentially destructive side effects. Anthocyanins are antioxidants and they give many vegetables their red, purple, and blue coloring.

In fact, purple carrots have 28 times more of these anthocyanins than an orange carrot. Growers love purple carrots because they are easier to grow and produce than other antioxidant-rich produce like blueberries.

Anthocyanins were put to the test in 2007 and lab-based results indicated that these pigments were helpful against a variety of health concerns including cancer, diabetes, neurological diseases and bacterial infections. Of the many biological enhancements, anthocyanins include anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic and antimicrobial properties. The anti-carcinogenic power of the purple carrot has been tested to help against cancer, strokes, heart disease and even diabetes. Unfortunately, the human body can only absorb so much anthocyanins so it is best to keep your servings of purples carrots small and not overdo it.
The next superfood
The roots of these carrots can also be used to promote health. The roots have been used to treat intestinal parasites, constipation, indigestion and tonsil issues. In ancient times, the purple carrot was used as medicine to treat everything from dog bites to syphilis. Men believed the carrot to be an aphrodisiac and used it to make women more pliable and men more passionate! Wow...but.. this is  not scientifically proven!

While the purple carrot may not be easy to come across right now, the health benefits and color appeal of this vegetable are making the spotlight and getting noticed. The Food and Drug Administration has approved for carrots to be marketed as fat free, low sodium, a good source of fiber, high in Vitamin A, and cholesterol free.
My favorite purple carrot juice
Nutritionists and farmers everywhere are starting to get wise to the purple carrot’s appeal. While the color at first may be off putting or exotically interesting, the purple carrot is more than just a visual show stopper. It can also be a healthy person’s best friend.
Vegood is without preservative
One of the best purple carrot juice can be found in Malaysia is Vegood! Now you should try yourself the taste and benefit of purple carrot.

The Big Difference Between Hoping and Knowing

WHEN ASTRONAUTS blast off into outer space, they hope for a safe re-entry, but do not know. Airline passengers, when their plane rumbles down the runway and reaches for the sky, hope for a safe landing, but do not know. When folks leave for a vacation, they hope for a safe return, but do not know. When two take their marriage vows, they hope for a loving and lasting marriage, but do not know. Anything can happen! Yes, we are living in a world of uncertainties. God says,"Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth" (Proverbs 27:1). To boast in such matters is pure presumption.

However, there are areas where we can know without a shadow of a doubt what will take place in the days that lie ahead of us. "WHAT!"you exclaim, "That is impossible!" Oh no, it isn't, and I will prove it to you from the Holy Bible!

It is simply amazing how the old devil has deceived the world. People try to convince me that no one can know in this life that all of their sins have been forgiven, and that no one can know without a shadow of a doubt that they will be in heaven when they die. Ask them, and their answer usually is, "Well, I hope so!" But they can't say for sure - they just "hope so."

UNCERTAINTY

Now all of this uncertainty is very sad indeed. I certainly would not relish lying on my death bed wondering if I was going to be in heaven or not. What if I didn't make it to heaven? The only other place, according to God, is hell, where souls weep and gnash their teeth. No, my friend, the issue is too tremendous to play with lightly. One's eternal destiny is a very solemn matter. I want to know for sure, right now, where I will be when I die.

Some have the strange idea that God will weigh their good works against their bad deeds and whatever weighs the most will determine where they go. Where did folks ever get that kind of an idea? Why, they got it from the devil himself, of course. Who else? God never says such a ridiculous thing, so it has to come from the devil. Of course, such deceived folk hope that their good works will somehow outweigh their bad deeds and that hopefully heaven will be their eternal home. However, we all have been found guilty by God. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). God says that salvation is "not of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:9). That rules out the devil's lie of works being weighed at death to determine my destiny!

How One Can Know For Sure!

Be sure of this, my friend, God never intended souls to be held in suspense or doubt. There are absolutely no uncertainties with God when it comes to your eternal destiny. God wants you to know that you are a sinner, unfit for heaven. That's the bad news! However, He also wants you to know that, "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures,. And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:3,4)

That's the good news! He also wants you to know that, "God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life"(John 3:16). There is not one shade of doubt in this tremendous statement, is there? God also states, "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life" (John 3:36). That word "hath," means a present possession!

After all, folks, the following Bible verse tells me one of the reasons the Bible was written. "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God;that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God" (1 John 5:13).

God's Written Guarantee

Let me drive the nail in deeper. God again says, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life" (John 5:24). Jesus exclaims, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life" (John 6:47). What could be plainer? What could be more pure and simple?

Has the Word of God convinced you? I certainly hope so, for if you are simply hoping, you are lost, my friend! "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2). Trust Christ and know the immediate forgiveness of all your sins by God and a home secured for you in heaven. Don't go through life hoping - be sure!

Lord Jesus Christ

Angels and Demons

If anybody ever seeks to convince you that they have recently received a divine revelation from a holy angel, you can safely place that individual in one of three categories: (1) A deceiver; (2) one deceived by Satan - who imitates holy angels to further his fiendish ends (II Cor. 11:14); (3) one deranged and given to hallucinations.
55% of Americans believe in angels guardian
Every credible Bible scholar will frankly tell you that when the last Book of the Holy Bible was written - all divine inspirations completely ceased! Consequently we can say that today we have a divinely complete revelation from God - nothing can be added to it, - and nothing can be taken from it. It is absolutely all we need for instruction concerning eternal matters.

Although demons may, God's angels no longer appear uttering words into the ears of man. However, in the Bible we have numerous occasions in which angels spoke and it is very interesting to notice what these celestial beings had to say!

Angels are not little children in heaven but created spirit beings. They are not confined to bodies of flesh like us; not experiencing the infirmities of humanity, they excel in strength. Ages ago some of these beings sought to overthrow the throne of God, and were consequently cast out of heaven. They are known as the devil and his angels (Rev. 12:9). Today these spirits are called demons and their influence in this world is tremendous. However, I don't want to dwell on demons but rather wish to draw your attention to God's holy angels and their sayings, for their utterances are thought-provoking indeed!
The Fallen Angel : Lucifer

HEAVEN'S THRONE

Turning back to a scene over 2,750 years ago in heaven we see the Son of God (Isa. Ch. 6), who 760 years later would come to earth to be born of a virgin. He was to be called Jesus, for He was to save His people from their sins (Matt. 1:21). As He sat upon the throne in His preincarnate state, holy, six-winged seraph angels flew before His presence covering their faces in reverence, covering their feet in humility, and flying in obedience, crying to each other, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts." In so doing they were acknowledging the unchanging character of the Son of God as being intrinsically holy. The Spirit tells us that Jesus Christ is "the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever" (Hebrews 13:8). He was holy in the eternal past. He is holy in this present time. He will remain holy throughout a future eternity. Past, present and future He changes not - He is holy! Thus in this ancient scene we see that Christ is God, that He is eternal and that He changes not. All cults deny this! I hope that you don't, for acknowledgment of these truths is absolutely essential to salvation.

Finally the day arrived when this glorious Person left the splendor of heaven. "When the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman" (Gal. 4:4). An angel came on the scene and announced to Mary, "Behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call His name JESUS." Mary, being a virgin, inquired with these words, "How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?... The angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:31-35). The "overshadowing" preserved the Lord's body from taking on the nature of His mother. Thus He was born absolutely holy, with no sinful nature as we have.

EARTH'S MANGER
When Christ was born, angels exclaimed to men, "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord" (Luke 2:11). Thus "the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world" (I John 4:14). He "was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death... that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man" (Heb. 2:9). God required the shedding of blood for the remission of sin (Heb. 9:22). The sacrifice required had to be sinless and holy. None other than the Son of God could fulfill God's holy requirements.
Jesus Christ  by Akiane Kramarik
Man cannot put his own sins away, for man is essentially a sinner. Thus any effort on his part is unacceptable to God. Peter said of Him, "Neither is there salvation in any other" (Acts 4:12). That is why "God was manifest in the flesh" (I Tim. 3:16), that He might have the capability of offering Himself as a sacrifice for sin. He died on the behalf of others. I can say - He died for me! - Can you? If not, you are still in your sins, not ready to meet God. Solemn thought indeed!

Angels could not die to save you, but "Christ died for our sins... He was buried" (I Cor. 15:3,4). On the first day of the week two women approached His tomb and an angel said to them, "He is not here: for He is risen" (Matt. 28:6). Today the Saviour lives in heaven amid myriads of angels who are proclaiming, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain" (Rev. 5:12). Yes, my friend, He alone is worthy of your soul's trust for salvation. To reject Him will confine you "into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels" (Matt. 25:41). May God help you to trust Him as Saviour, for this will secure you an eternal home in heaven with "Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant" ... and "an innumerable company of angels" (Heb. 12:24,22).

But the glamour model looks to face some competition among photographers - who will no doubt be gutted to lose the host of stunners to have graced the stands so far.
A troop of buxom beauties were recently seen in the crowd to watch every Paraguay game.
Paraguay supporters wait for the start of the Copa America 2011 group match between Brazil and Paraguay in Cordoba, Argentina

To be fair, though, with fans like this, you can't blame the Paraguayan players for taking their collective eye off the ball with their late collapse, can you...?!
A supporter of Paraguay

Snappers are clearly waiting with baited breath for every Paraguay game, and the Final, is sure to be as competitive in the stands as on the pitch...
A supporter of Uruguay

and...Uruguay fans worried their side could deny the world another look at Ms Riquelme, fear not, the lingerie model still stripped naked despite Paraguay losing to Spain in the quarter-finals of the World Cup last year, so there’s every chance she’ll do it again regardless of the result at the weekend.

Freak weather forces waterfall to flow UPWARDS

Extreme weather has been battering Australia this week.
Winds have become so strong that waterfalls have been blown upwards.
The strong winds, which are seriously affecting the waterways of southern Australia, have gone up to 75mph.
Winds in southern Australia are so strong that even waterfalls have been affected
Earlier this week, Sydney saw a month's worth of rain falling in just one day, according to the BBC.
Although the ferries which hundreds of commuters rely on have kept running, they have provided rocky rides for those brave enough to keep travelling on them.
Waves have reached 5m off the area's coast.

These winds are the latest in a long-running bout of extreme weather in Australia, where 25 people died in floods which raged throughout the winter.
John Magrath, a climate change researcher at Oxfam, said: 'The Earth is delivering a message to us.
'And the message is that more extreme weather is becoming the norm rather than the exception.'

Bomb blast hits Oslo, Norway

A huge explosion wrecked government buildings in central Oslo on Friday, including Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg's office, killing at least two people and injuring several others, according to reports.

Oslo police said the explosion was caused by a bomb, the NTB news agency said.
A Reuters correspondent counted at least eight injured people.
The blast blew out most windows on the 17-story building housing Stoltenberg's office, as well as nearby ministries including the oil ministry, which was on fire.
Image: Debris is seen on the street after a powerful explosion rocked central Oslo
Heavy debris littered the streets and a tall plume of brown smoke rose over the city center. The tangled wreckage of a car could be seen near the blast site.
The Reuters correspondent said the streets had been fairly quiet in mid-afternoon on a Friday in high summer, when many Oslo residents take vacation or leave for weekend breaks.

Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten said that Stoltenberg was uninjured, and was not in the building at the time of the explosion, which happened around 3:30 p.m. (9:30 a.m. EDT).
Stoltenberg, speaking about 12 p.m. ET, confirmed he was safe and said all government ministers also appeared to be unhurt.

"This is very serious," he said. He said it was too early to say if the blast was a terrorist attack.

Olaf Furniss, a freelance journalist in Oslo, told BBC News that people he had spoken to feared it was a terrorist attack.
The BBC reported residents as saying there was a smell of sulfur in the air and asked Furniss about this.

One witness in Oslo, who spoke to the BBC and was identified only as Ella, said "We are the good guys; stuff like this doesn't happen to us."

"It exploded — it must have been a bomb. People ran in panic and ran. I counted at least 10 injured people," said another witness Kjersti Vedun, who was leaving the area.
NATO member Norway has sometimes in the past been threatened by leaders of al-Qaeda for its involvement in Afghanistan. It has also taken part the NATO bombing of Libya, where Muammar Gadhafi has threatened to strike back in Europe.

However, political violence is virtually unknown in the country.
"There certainly aren't any domestic Norwegian terrorist groups although there have been some al-Qaida-linked arrests from time to time," David Lea, Western Europe analyst at Control Risks, said. "They are in Afghanistan and were involved in Libya, but it's far too soon to draw any conclusions."

John Drake, a senior risk consultant at London-based consultancy AKE said the attack may not be "too dissimilar to the terrorist attack in Stockholm in December which saw a car bomb and secondary explosion shortly after in the downtown area."
"That attack was later claimed as reprisal for Sweden's contribution to the efforts in Afghanistan," he said.

For North Koreans, Human Excrement a Top Seller

Everyone knows North Korea is one of the more…weird countries out there. It’s ruled by the diminutive and utterly insane Kim Jong-Il and is fiercely militaristic, ensuring the world that you best bring your A-game if you want to challenge it to a game of RISK. What people don’t know, however, is its love of human excrement.

(Read also: http://jitlim7.blogspot.com/2011/06/japanese-scientist-makes-delicious.html)

Yes, human excrement. Poop. Feces All of this and more is apparently a hot commodity just north of the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone)

According to Professor Kim Young-soo of Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea, interviews with a number of North Korean defectors revealed that skinny jeans (Hipster couture), adult films, and yes, human excrement are selling like “hot cakes.”

When I first read that I pictured pancake-shaped feces sold in a Denny’s. Clearly North Korea isn’t that weird.

Of course, there is semi-logical reason for all of this. Everyone loves pornography, regardless of country of origin, and “fashionable trousers” were banned, making skinny jeans a hot ticket item for North Korean women. But what of the human excrement?

According to Kim, households used human waste as fertilizer. Since the average human probably doesn’t produce enough waste each day, some shops have begun selling it to deal with the shortage.

This is all well and good – you gotta do what you gotta do to survive – but makes us ask: where do they get it, and how much do they pay for it?

Most expensive cities in the world - cost of living

The city with the highest cost of living in the world is not New York or Tokyo, but Luanda, Angola.

(scroll down for the top50 table)
Angola's capital Luanda retained the unenviable title of the world's most expensive city for expatriates, narrowly edging out Tokyo, according to a survey published by Mercer Human Resource Consulting.

At the other end of the scale, the Mercer group's study named the Pakistani port Karachi as the least expensive city.

Oil-rich Angola is a magnet for foreign workers who push up already high prices inflated by a reliance on imports.

The southern African nation's domestic production lags behind its neighbours due to the effects of a 27-year-long civil war on its infrastructure.

Another African city, the Chadian capital N'Djamena, was placed third with Moscow fourth and Geneva fifth.

Paris dropped 10 places to 27th while London dropped one place to 18th. New York at 32nd was named as the most expensive metropolis in the United States.

Australian cities jumped sharply in the ranking, reflecting the local currency's 14 percent gain against the US dollar.

The report, which is published annually to help companies assess compensation allowances for expatriate workers, compared the cost of over 200 items including housing, food and transport in 214 cities, using New York as a reference.

Kuala Lumpur also gone up in the ranking because the US dollar has weakened against Ringgit Malaysia.
